April 2009 Newsletter
Spring is definitely in the air.
Easter is coming and so is the Midwest Horse Fair.
Yee haa!
If you are like most of us, it’s the event we wait for all year long!
Midwest Horse Fair
Midwest Horse Fair The Midwest Horse Fair this year runs April 17, 18, and 19. You’ll definitely want to check the website for a schedule of clinicians and demos. Let’s try to meet on Saturday at NOON near the GLOBE outside the coliseum (is a slow load, please be patient) There will be some new HON faces from out of town (and out of state!) that we will want to meet and it will be nice to get together after a long winter.
On Friday, a great place to meet up would be at the Mustang Pride demo. The Mustang demo will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. Several of our members and friends have put in a lot of time preparing for this event…
HONs -- Cindy A, Diane F, Jessie W.
Also Tracy Porter and TJ Clibborn will present their mustangs with the exciting sport of Tent Pegging. Be sure to check out their performance on Friday and then catch them again on Sunday at 9:40 a.m. See you then!

Let’s Talk about Clinicians
Ray Hunt/Monty Bruce/Clinton Anderson
While there will be plenty of clinicians at the Horse Fair, most of them probably trace their roots back to the late, great Ray Hunt. As you probably know, Ray Hunt (August 31, 1929 - March 12, 2009) was one of the first to emphasize cooperation and respect over coercion. He was truly a pioneer, and while he is gone from this Earth, he has left us with so much. . "If you are going to teach a horse something and have a good relationship, you don't make him learn it--you let him learn it." Ray Hunt Clinician Monty Bruce (Videos), the one we are so hoping to book for a HON clinic, will be appearing at the Midwest Horse Fair again this year. Be sure to check him out. HON Jessie has been in contact with Mont Bruce regarding a possible HON clinic and is hoping to meet with him and get more details soon. Keep your fingers crossed! How about spending a half day with Clinton Anderson? You could get personalized instruction with one of our favorites!

Equisearch Sweepstakes - Enter Soon
Enter the Equisearch Sweepstakes and you might be the lucky person to spend a half day with Clinton at his Downunder Horsemanship facility in Stephenville, TX. Enter to Win by April 15, 2009.

Mustang Pride Group -TJ Clibborn
One of our local clinicians, TJ Clibborn, could use our help! TJ has entered this year’s Mustang Challenge and would like to give us a preview of what he has done with his mare. View Little Miss Finnigan's and TJ's Videos and also futher info on Jessie's Blog spot. Please join TJ and the Mustang Pride group on April 4th from 11-3 at The Farm on Serns Rd./Milton. The cost is $5, which benefits the WI Horse Council District 4. There will be a silent auction and food stand. Bring your own lawn chair and enjoy! View his Mustang Challenge Page Here.

Hubby’s Gone Fishin….Let’s Ride!
DeAnn’s non-horseback riding husband is going on his annual fishing trip so DeAnn H. has invited us to her place for a cookout and trail ride. We would arrive around 11:00am, Sunday, May 3 , We will have a PRR Meeting (11:00am), then the cookout followed by the ride. DeAnn H. lives right across from Magnolia Bluff and has about 150 acres of trails with wonderful scenery. The day will depend on the weather, of course, but it sure sounds like fun! Bring a dish to pass. Trail Map is available on line . This Map can also be found on the HONs Links under Trail Maps Section. Watch for details on calendar page! Contact DeAnn H. via Email.
Logging Saddle Hours
Want to log your saddle hours and earn awards? The Southern WI Appaloosa Horse Association (SWAHA) is opening their Trail Pals Program to All Breeds . Just like the Appaloosa categories, the Open classes have 3 rider categories ….19 and under, 20-49 and 50 and over.
You simply pay $10 single/$15 Family for the SWAHA membership and then $5 per horse entry. You log hours in the saddle when you are out on the trail, earning double time for riding in county, state and national parks. Each horse/rider combination must be kept on separate official log sheets.Your first official log sheets will be mailed to you on confirmation of your entry into the Pals program and membership status.

News From Our SOB (South of the Border) sister, Marise
The house we purchased is under "de-construction" then remodeling...wow, never seen so much dust and rubble in my life. These Mexicans can make anything out of rocks, and concrete and brick...its amazing! Anyway, we hope to be in sometime in May. Once its finished, my mom will have her own casita, that could accommodate 4 people, then we'll have a guest suite for two, and then our house will have a master suite, and our "media room" which could possibly accommodate 2 more...so at some point, I'll be ready for guests! There are also many B&BS here, fairly reasonably priced, too. Did I mention the pool? It’s got a solar heater!!! The temp now has been reaching 80*, but I don't go there when the workers are there, which leaves me Sundays. I've gotten a floatie raft, and my stretch-cord swim trainer that lets me swim in place (for my phys. therapy), and a big inner tube that I have yet to blow up! Besides the pool, my favorite part is that it’s on a large double lot so "Bruno of Hagmania" can finally stretch out his long legs, untethered by the leash! The gardens are nice too, and the terrazzo, and I like the kitchen... ok, I like it all! Our realtor's wife, Debra, has discovered she's a horse person...been a city girl all her life and after moving here, she discovered horses...it drives her hubby insane that "all she talks about is horses" so for me, it’s welcome! Debra is going to be my little project, although she doesn't know it yet :) She has purchased a lovely black gelding that’s perfect on the trail and the road. Another friend of my aunt Sharon's has put me in touch w/ a gal who wants to start her new Andalusians in dressage...right up my alley...so she's called me to meet her and see if we click. Not that I'll be in the saddle but surely I can start w/ ground work, right? Check out the photos from one of Marise’s favorite events… the Mexican National Chili Cook-Off held in the village of Ajijic. The “dancing horses” are captured in these photos from Marise F. .

*****from DeDe N.-Look where I went to!!! Hey! I got back from Florida this past Sunday and just had to share these pictures. I begged Mom & Dad to take me to the Parelli Center on Sunday morning. It was a beautiful drive (about 1.25 hours from where Mom & Dad are staying). Talk about some NICE shacks!!! There was alot of money in that area - farm after farm - mansion after mansion. I was drooling the whole time!!! We got to the Parelli Center and Dad said he was going to turn around and go home, but you guys know me!! I said no way!!! I told him to drive in. We ended up seeing a couple of people riding their horses, so I got out, told them who I was and asked if I could take pictures. They welcomed me with open arms and told me to go anywhere that I wanted and take as many pictures as I wanted. It was INCREDIBLE!!! We walked all over, seeing the lodge, a training class room, and a bunch of people training their horses. All the people were so nice, always stopping to say hi. One gal even asked us our story and told us hers. What an incredible morning!!! If you follow Parelli, you will see that I got a picture of Magic (Pat's horse) and Allure and Remmer (Linda's horses). They were both there that day. In fact, Pat was giving a demonstration later that day at some other farm. Unfortunately I had to catch a plane, so I couldn't stay. I didn't physically see either one of them, but it was still incredible. Enjoy the pictures!!!
