Pinky

PINKY PIG January 15 - March 3
Some people spend a lifetime searching unsuccessfully for answers that they can accept and be comfortable with. In Pinky's 2 months of life, he learned to make life choices without questioning others.
Pinky did not live with his own kind. He lived with 3 Cocker Spaniels and 2 humans. One dog was a loyal, affectionate friend who eagerly shared food, toys, and any opportunity to tug together on leather shoe laces. The other dog would show considerable interest in him, but ONLY when there was food in Pinky's dish. Even as much as Pinky "shared", this dog boldly refused him even a nibble out of the "free choice" communal dish. The third canine, aside from a few discrete warning growls, completely ignored Pinky. This foolish dog truly believed that he was the only favorite! Pinky, however, concerned himself with only one of these dogs... the one that today sleeps on his blanket and continues to search for any sign of his presence.
Despite the always present inquiries from humans... "Pot Belly?", "300 pounds?", "Litter trained?", "Lives where?" and "Pork chops?", Pinky calmly disregarded labels and stereotypical expectations. Pinky knew that he could never genetically be a "Pot Belly. He was not even concerned about "some day" possibly weighing 300 pounds. The words, "Pork Chops" were not in his vocabulary. Most importantly, Pinky knew that he could learn as much as he was taught.
Pinky enjoyed his soft, velour blankets, his ever-burning heat lamp, and his endless bottles of sweet milk replacer. However, what mattered most to Pinky, was his love of a soft, kind voice, a gentle touch, a sincere friend, and an occasional rest by the fire.
Pinky was just a Pig...?
