Illinois Trail/Resort Review

Trail Name Lake Le Aqua Na State Park
Web Site Lake Le Aqua Na State Park
State, County, Nearest Town Illinois, Stephenson County, Town of Lena
Terrain Slightly rolling, wooded, with some open areas.
Trails Very nicely maintained, wide wooded trails. 8.5 miles of trails. Some smaller offshoot trails if you wnat to do them. 2 creek crossings, very pretty scenery.
Facilities Horse camping as well as regular campgrounds.   Horse camp is a large grassy area completey surrounded by woods, trailers back up to the woods and horses are picketed in the trees for nice shade ect.   There are very clean pit toilets, a pavillion with grill and a hand water pump for water.
What I liked most . . . Very nice wide and well mantained trails, just a very pretty park.
What I liked least . . . Could have a few more miles of trails but still enough to keep you entertained for the weekend. Also can not make reservations, it is first come basis.

Trail Name Jubilee College State Park
Web Site Jubilee College State Park
State, County, Nearest Town Illinois, Peoria County, Town of Brimfield
Terrain A mix of everything, flat, hilly, open wooded.
Trails There are so many trails there, they have main trails and so many little off shoot trails so you can pick the type of terrain you want to ride.
There is water crossings, I'm not sure of how many miles of trails.
Facilities The horse camp area is very nice.
There is a large wooded circle in the middle that you can camp in and then there is also the whole outer circle to camp. They have picket line poles set up at the sites, nice fire pit/grills water available at the pump and a manure pit.
What I liked most . . . Very pretty scenery and nice riding, and nice camping area.
What I liked least . . . We went very late in the year and woke up one morning to bow hunters going into the woods.

Trail Name Shawnee National Forest
Web Site Shawnee National Forest
State, County, Nearest Town Eddyville, Illinois
Terrain Very rocky, steep inclines, not for the timid or young rider. Beautiful area. Long trails. Easy to get lost, so a good map and a GPS are good things to have with you.
Trails The numbering system can be a little confusing. But it's a very pretty area to ride in. We stayed at Hayes Canyon, Eddyville. Pretty camp ground.
Facilities Some sites have all the good stuff, electric, water, sewer. The showers are wonderful. There is a nice big room to use for rainy times.
What I liked most . . . The pretty trails, lots of small water crossings, variety of the trails.
What I liked least . . . The camp sites can be a bit of a challenge to get parked in. Not real level, and small.
